The Motivational Speech PresentationPresentation! Presentation! Presentation! Even a speech that is not particularly interesting can be improved if the speaker has the ability to make his speech inspiring. First and foremost is a good command of the language of your speech. This does not mean using big words and complicated phrases to impress the audience. It does mean understanding your audience and being able to adjust the language of your speech to the type of group you are addressing. For instance, if you are speaking to a group of doctors or nurses you would try to use the language of the medical profession and not the language of a group of computer enthusiasts. Know your topic. There is nothing that can build your confidence as easily as knowing everything about your topic. It is hard to stumble or make mistakes when you know what your talking about. In this case all you'll need on the stage with you is a list of the points you wanted to cover. Dress appropriately for the group you will be addressing. If it is a convention or other large function where you are the key speaker, inquire from the person that contacted you, what the dress will be for the evening. Presentation is a learned skill, so practice in front of a mirror or video tape yourself to weed out nervous twitches and facial express. Try changing the tone and strength of your delivery. Try walking around and directing your attention to what would be your whole audience, without your notes in hand. If you can develop poise in your presentation and delivery you will be able to control your audience and command their attention. |
